Fox, CBS, NBC Sue Dish Network Over AutoHop Ad-Skipper

UPDATED: Dish also files suit in New York against all four broadcast networks. At issue is PrimeTime Anytime, a service that allows consumers to skip television ads.

    I think it's cool that you've been hired to go around finding mentions of Dish online so that you can leave positive comments about Dish and also try to direct people to the petition. Everyone needs a job, right? The problem with Auto Hop is that it completely destroys the economics of television. The only reason TV shows can exist is because companies pay money to sponsor them. Companies sponsor the shows in order to entice the audience to buy their products or services, so that they can earn back the money they spent on the ads (plus profit). If companies think nobody is watching the ads, they will stop advertising, and then NOBODY CAN AFFORD TO MAKE TV SHOWS ANYMORE!

    So if you enjoy watching TV, you have to respect the fact that the ads are part of the arrangement, making it possible for you to enjoy the shows you like.
