Family Circus cartoonist Bil Keane—who spent over 50 years mining safe, knowing chuckles while first and foremost tugging heartstrings with his single-panel comic—has died, according to the Associated Press. Details on the circumstances of his death were not released. Keane was 89.
An Army veteran who started out drawing for Stars And Stripes, Keane produced the first Family Circus in 1960, modeling its traditional nuclear clan after his own (albeit with disproportionately larger heads).
