Matt Groening ends Life In Hell comic strip after 34 years

Books: Newswire: Matt Groening ends Life In Hell comic strip after 34 years

While The Simpsons shows no signs of ending as long as the show is profitable, and Futurama keeps returning from the dead more powerful than ever, creator Matt Groening has brought one of his creations to a conclusion. The last original strip for his popular comic, Life In Hell, ran on Friday, June 15. For the next month, publishers will have free rein to run any strips from the Hell archives they want, and on July 13, the whole strip will be wrapped. In an email to Poynter, Groening said, “I’ve had great fun, in a Sisyphean kind of way, but the time has come to let Binky and Sheba and Bongo and Akbar and Jeff take some time off.”
Begun as a self-published comic by Groening in 1978, Life In Hell eventually landed as a weekly strip in LA Weekly beginning in 1980. The strip revolved primarily around ...

The Perfect Wireless Plan

The Perfect Wireless Plan

I wish I could say that I hate to say “I told you so,” but I don’t. When Verizon began carrying the iPhone last year, it made the mistake of offering an unlimited data plan. This was a dumb move, I argued then, because it was clear Verizon would later have to scrap this approach. Unlimited plans reward data hogs at the expense of everyone else: If you’re streaming puppy videos all day and I’m just surfing the Web, why should we pay the same rate—especially if your puppy videos are clogging the network and ruining my Web searching? It’s fairer—and, for most people, cheaper—if, like in everything else in life, we pay for only what we use.
